Living healthy is like walking on a tightrope. You can fall easily, of the one side, having a no care attitude and eat whatever you want or you can fall of the other side, becoming supper obsessed with eating perfect and lose sight of God.

The best news is that God wants to be with you on this journey. Initially we might fall from the one side to the other but with God the balance will get easier because you know that you can trust Him.

But is it really important for God that we live a healthy lifestyle?

Definitely! Starting in the Word God says “whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God”- 1 Corinthians 10:31. Eating healthy and being active improves your mood and gives you more energy to do the will of God. It also decreases your risk for chronic diseases or even the acute flu’s. The thing is you will never know if the Lord wants to send you on a hike over mountains for the sake of the Gospel.

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not Your own; you were bought at a price. Therefor honor God with your bodies”-1 Corinthians 6:19-20. My house is usually clean but when we expect guests it is spring cleaned. With that picture in mind we must remind ourselves that the Spirit of Jesus is living in us. Our bodies are also a gift from God and I believe in taking care of it, shows how thankful we are for it.

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life what you will eat or drink or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes”-Matthew 6:25. God does not want us to obsess about anything but Him! He will always provide whatever we need and He will guide us to honor our bodies for Him.

In Galatians 5 it says self-control is a fruit of the Spirit. This shows that having a deep relationship with Jesus, self-control will come automatically, but mostly it first takes some discipline from your side to grow that fruit. Living healthy does not mean you have to eat perfect or need a six-pack but it is to be free from food controlling you! You can still go out with your friends, have some of your favorite chocolate or skip your workout, but keep on with the burning desire to be the best vessel that is always ready for God to do whatever He wants.

The tight rope gets easier as you practice and walk it without any burden. As you continue chasing God, there will come a desire to live as healthy as possible. It literally changes you from the inside out.
